The three-runway system (3RS) will allow Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) to handle future traffic demand as estimated by IATA Consulting, that is, 102 million passengers, 8.9 million tonnes of cargo and 607,000 aircraft movements per year by 2030.
3RS will involve:
- Reclamation of approximately 650 hectares of land north of the existing airport island, bounded by approximately 13.4 km of seawall
- Construction of the Third Runway, taxiways, apron with 57 parking positions, and Concourse (TRC)
- Construction of other associated airport support infrastructure, facilities and utilities for 3RS operation
